Teachers: The lessons in the manual contain more information than you will probably be able to teach in one class period. Seek the Spirit of the Lord in selecting the scripture passages, stories, activities, questions, and other lesson materials that best meet the needs of class members.
This Week's Lesson
- To read the lesson for this week, click on the picture of the manual to the right. When you are reading the lesson online, you can open and read the scriptures in the lesson with just one click. Try it.
You can read the assigned scriptures for this week online: 1 Nephi 8; 11.
Would you like to listen to an audio recording of the scriptures in this week's lesson? Try listening to or downloading 1 Nephi 8 (MP3 format), which is in this week's reading. For more scripture audio, click here.
Art
The lesson manual includes a picture of Lehi's vision of the tree of life that you can use in your lesson (see lesson manual, page 9). For other ideas on pictures, try browsing through the Gospel Art Picture Kit, which is available online or in your meetinghouse library.
Music
Music can invite the Spirit into your class and reinforce doctrines and principles in the lesson. For ideas on hymns that would be appropriate for this week's lesson, use the topical index in the back of the hymnbook or use the online topical index or scripture-hymn index. Using the Interactive Church Music Player on the Church Music site, you can listen to a hymn, download a hymn, or read the words of a hymn. For suggestions on using hymns or other music in your class, read "Music" in Teaching, No Greater Call, pages 172–74.
 Additional Teaching Helps
The lesson manual suggests using a brief story and activity to begin the lesson (see lesson manual, page 5). For more information on starting your lesson in a way that will interest class members and invite the Spirit, see "Beginning the Lesson" in Teaching, No Greater Call, page 93.
